Ajaokuta Banded Iron Formation (BIF) – High Density Magnetite

Located on the Agbaja Plateau in Kogi State, the banded iron-ore deposit lies within the shallow, flat-lying formations of the Agbaja Formation. The ore is composed primarily of magnetite and hematite, with an average iron content of ~41.3%. Characterised by its banded texture and stable geological structure, the deposit is ideally suited for metallurgical and industrial applications. With an estimated resource base of hundreds of millions of tonnes, this iron-ore plays a pivotal role in supporting steel production and advancing Nigeria’s long-termindustrial and energy ambitions.
